Google Apps for Work is quite a popular choice amongst the small businesses and younger companies that are born in the cloud. However, Google is pushing the envelope further to make its way into larger enterprises with their initiative “Google for Work.” Well, there’s good news — Centrify has the solutions to help with the adoption of Google Apps for Work in mid to large enterprises.
Before we go any further, let’s take a look at Google Apps for Work adoption numbers published by Google:
- More than one million paying organizations are actively using Google Drive, including companies like The New York Times, Uber, Fossil, Wedding Wire and BBVA.
- More than 5 million businesses are already using “Google Apps for Work” and some marquee customers include Whirlpool, Shaw Industries, Hyundai, etc.
Centrify Identity Service is also seeing the adoption numbers rising year over year. All signs point towards a rise in Google Apps adoption across enterprises.
How can Centrify Identity Service help
Most of the enterprises have invested in centralized directory services such as Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP to store their user identities. When these enterprises are adopting cloud based services such as Google Apps for Work, they simply want the ability to authenticate against their directories so they can offer unified single sign-on to their business users and IT can benefit by keeping sensitive directory info where you want it: on-site in LDAP or Active Directory. This will help IT protect their organization from cyber threats.
Google does offer tools such as “Google Active Directory Sync (GADS)” and “Google Apps Password Sync (GAPS)” — but are they built for large enterprises? I will leave it up to you to do the research and decide for yourself.
Larger enterprises typically tend to have several forests, and domains across each forest with complex trusts in place etc. So it becomes tricky when you are migrating or deploying Google Apps for Work.
This is where Centrify Identity Service can help with deployments into the complex/large enterprises. Centrify Identity Service offers the solution that basically addresses not only Single Sign-on (SSO) and Muti-Factor Authentication (MFA) for end users — but also full life cycle management of users. Automatically create accounts, manage entitlements within those accounts and revoke access when necessary — provision users across apps, all from a central control point (Active Directory or LDAP).
One of the components of Centrify Identity Service is Cloud Connector, which does the authentication against active directory, as well as helps with provisioning/de-provisioning of user access. This is a robust piece of software built for large enterprises which runs behind the enterprises’ firewall and can traverse across multi-forest, multi-domain using the trusts in place.
